Innovative Opportunities (I O)

is a non-profit organisation formalised in 2022, dedicated to creating inclusive, innovative, and impactful ventures that empower individuals and strengthen communities.  By merging arts, technology, wellness, and more, we reimagine our signature Together Spaces© to inspire collaboration, empower diverse communities, and drive meaningful change—ensuring everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Building on years of expertise in education, community engagement, and collaborative initiatives, I O delivers a diverse range of forward-thinking programmes and projects designed to strengthen communities, promote well-being, and spur sustainable growth. Through these efforts, we aim to unlock the full potential of individuals, bridging gaps and creating pathways for lasting social impact.

THE FUTURE IS HERE

Our Mission & Vision

I O (Innovative Opportunities) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to cultivating inclusive, visionary ventures that enrich communities and fuel positive change. By combining the power of arts, technology, wellness, and more, we create dynamic programmes and purpose-built spaces where individuals from all walks of life can learn, collaborate, and thrive.

Through our inclusive design principles, we ensure neurodiverse-friendly features that benefit everyone, placing accessibility and sustainability at the forefront of everything we do. We believe in bridging gaps between local communities, corporate partners, and educational institutions, enabling people to access cutting-edge resources and gain valuable skills for personal and professional growth.

Our mission extends beyond physical spaces, offering ongoing opportunities that nurture talent, spark creativity, and foster meaningful connections. By forging strong partnerships and tapping into forward-thinking ideas, we strive to catalyse economic development, cultural enrichment, and social cohesion.

Ultimately, I O seeks to transform how communities come together—empowering individuals and organisations to reach their full potential, championing innovation, and promoting well-being.

Through each new initiative, we remain committed to driving progress, amplifying underrepresented voices, and shaping a future where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Our Pillars

1

Empowerment

We equip our staff, volunteers, and community members with the skills and knowledge needed to effect positive change, ensuring everyone has the confidence and capacity to grow.

2

Collaboration

We believe in the power of working together—building strong partnerships, pooling resources, and combining expertise to deliver lasting, meaningful impact.

3

Listening

We value open dialogue, taking time to hear and learn from those we serve. Their voices shape our services, driving continual improvement and relevance.

4

Inclusion

We recognise and celebrate diversity, treating all individuals with respect and dignity, while ensuring everyone has the support to reach their full potential.

5

Impact

We strive for transformative outcomes, delivering quality, non-judgemental services that meet the needs of our community and result in real, positive change.

Our Approach

We recognise that every community is unique, with diverse needs and aspirations. That’s why we developed the concept of purpose-built spaces and projects—we often referred to as “Together Spaces©”—to address specific challenges and unlock opportunities.

By blending arts, technology, wellness, and education, we aim create environments that nurture talent, support neurodiverse individuals, and encourage collaboration among locals, businesses, and wider stakeholders.

Who We Support

I O’s initiatives cater to a broad spectrum of participants, including:

Young people, seeking skill-building opportunities and creative outlets

Adults, requiring a supportive environment for professional growth, lifelong learning, or wellness activities

Marginalised communities, looking to gain access to resources, mentorship, and networks previously beyond their reach

Local creators, needing dedicated facilities (e.g., maker spaces, studios) to showcase and enhance their work

OUR TIMELINE

2022

INNOVATIVE OPPORTUNITIES LTD FOUNDED

Innovative Opportunities Ltd was established in January 2022 by Anita Whittaker—an educator with over 30 years of experience, extensive media involvement, and service on various boards including a homeless charity, The Prince’s Trust, and a community garden—and her husband, Johann Whittaker, founder of a renovation company. Recognising gaps in opportunities for secondary school students, Anita decided to leverage her many connections to create a structured way of delivering life-changing programmes in arts, technology, wellness, and more.

From the beginning, our focus has been on fostering progress, wellbeing, and community development.

In the summer of 2022, we launched the “Our Built Environment” programme with a £40,000 NCIL grant from Brent Council. Running for four weeks—Monday to Thursday for under-18s, and Fridays for adults—it engaged over 150 young people in skills such as electrical installation, plastering, painting, art expression, CAD, hydroponics, and exploration of architecture’s societal role. Participants also developed valuable teamwork and critical thinking skills.

Local residents delivered the project, with half of the facilitators being women of retirement age and all from ethnic minority backgrounds.

We partnered with JFW Renovations for professional trade activities, and collaborated with the Met Police and Newman Catholic College to reach students in their summer camp. On Fridays, we welcomed 10 adult clients from Randal Care Homes, living with mental health challenges, who took part in weekly plastering and art expression sessions throughout August.
