Dr Deryck Murray
Dr Deryck Murray is a distinguished academic and public servant specialising in history and African studies. Initially trained in biology at the University of the West Indies, he later shifted his focus to history, earning his doctorate in the field. He has held key positions such as Director of the Commission for Pan-African Affairs in Barbados and Director of the Centre for Hybrid Studies, as well as lecturing at the University of the West Indies. Dr Murray now lends his multidisciplinary insight to I O, where he helps develop programmes for the disadvantaged African Caribbean diaspora in the UK, championing cultural preservation and driving meaningful change.

Matt Figgis
Matt Figgis is a seasoned professional in the UK building services industry with over 16 years' experience. As Director and Principal Engineer at Mdot Engineering Ltd, he specialises in delivering complex projects—including data centres, airports, and vertical farms. Since joining Innovative Opportunities (IO) as an advisor in 2022, Matt has contributed his robust project management skills—demonstrated by initiatives like Tech HubLite in Harlesden—and his expertise in sustainable building practices to advance IO's community initiatives. His extensive industry connections further strengthen IO's strategic partnerships

StorpWeber
StorpWeber is an innovative architectural practice dedicated to inclusive and participatory design. Co-directed by Patrick Weber—Professor of Architecture for Inclusive Design (Emeritus) at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London—and Professor Sabine Storp, the company has been at the forefront of shaping educational and design practices for nearly 30 years. Patrick’s extensive experience in advancing inclusive design, combined with Sabine’s international expertise in community-led practice and global engagement, drives Storpe Weber’s commitment to creating environments that empower communities and foster social inclusion. Through pioneering projects and international collaborations, StorpWeber consistently challenges conventional design approaches, ensuring that every space not only serves its purpose but also enriches lives. Notably, StorpWeber has been advising I O since before its inception and continues to lend their expertise to our design and build projects, playing an instrumental role in shaping innovative solutions that impact communities.

Shivali Patel
Shivali Patel is a multifaceted professional with extensive experience in marketing, creative resource management and entrepreneurship. Currently the Creative Resource Manager at TEAM LEWIS in London, she has honed her expertise through roles at MullenLowe London, eg+ worldwide, and other leading agencies. Educated in Marketing & Advertising and Business & Finance, Shivali also excels as an entrepreneur, author and international speaker. As an advisory team member for I O – Innovative Opportunities, she leverages her skills in project management, brand development and stakeholder engagement to drive creative innovation and empower underrepresented communities.

Anderson Connell
Anderson Connell is an accomplished media professional and publisher with over two decades’ experience. As Editor and Publisher of Caribbean Daily Eye since February 2019, he delivers daily news that resonates with the Caribbean and its diaspora. With expertise spanning media, ICT consultancy and project management—and a background that includes senior roles at Newsquest Media Group and educational advisory positions—Anderson brings a customer-obsessed, strategically minded approach to I O. His deep understanding of multicultural audiences and robust industry connections are pivotal in developing effective communication strategies and technology-driven community initiatives for I O.

Kayann Smith
Kaye-Anne Smith, or R3times as she is known in creative circles, graduated from Middlesex University in 2017 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Her work—a dynamic blend of painting, sculpture, and printing—uses diverse materials to forge a contemporary narrative of cultural identity, utilising patterns, symbolism, and portraiture to champion the legacy of the Jamaican diaspora. A proud lifelong resident of Brent, she is dedicated to empowering marginalised communities through art. Additionally, she lends her expertise as an adviser to I O for the Artisn Creator Maker Together space, playing a key role in driving creative innovation.

Dr Rasha Saïd
Dr Rasha Saïd is a multifaceted entrepreneur, philanthropist, and innovator whose expertise in marketing, brand development, and entrepreneurship drives meaningful change. Her influential roles at Condé Nast and Christie’s ignited the entrepreneurial spirit behind The Toucan Project—a dynamic platform that empowers creatives by connecting them with key business leaders.
Her skill in identifying talent and nurturing innovation is further demonstrated through her active involvement with organisations such as the UK Business Angels Association and Innovation RCA. As Co-Chair of The Saïd Foundation, she leads initiatives that support education and livelihood projects, reflecting her commitment to empowering underrepresented communities.
As an I O advisor through the Microuniversity Toucan project, Rasha leverages her extensive experience and passion for community empowerment to drive initiatives that create impactful, community-focused programmes.
